We've got another fantastic lineup of talks for you in May, hosted by CPS Group at DeskLodge House. Refreshments will be provided for the evening.

This month is a people-called-Matt-talking-about-accessibility special! With Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) and UMBRAAD the following day, we're starting the hype about accessibility in the Umbraco community a day early.

The talks for the evening will be:

• "Calling An Accessibility Overlay Accessible Does Not Make it Accessible" by Matt Begent In this talk, we'll look at Accessibility Overlays, what they are, what they do and why you probably shouldn't use them. It includes the greatest video of all time.
• "Navigating the web through colour-blind eyes: It's not all black and white" by Matt Sutherland Admit it. You've launched a website without considering the impact of your website on people who are colour blind. I know I have and I am colour blind! Colour vision deficiencies come in varying degrees of severity and therefore it can be difficult to know how your design decisions impact your users who suffer. In this session, I will discuss my journey with colour vision deficiency, highlight how it affects internet users on your site and arm you with considerations and tools for a more inclusive website design process.

There are still knowledge gaps around accessibility issues and many barriers and hurdles still exist when building and developing websites. UMBRAAD is an opportunity for Umbraco and web practitioners to get together, learn and discuss accessibility in general, find out what's happening with Umbraco accessibility and to pick up any tools and techniques that may help them improve the accessibility of their sites.

The Content Delivery API has opened a world of possibilities for headless applications, including allowing us to embrace swift, scalable pre-rendered sites.

In this session, we'll dive into the concept of 'Bake, Don't Fry' and the world of static site generation, spotlighting Astro as a leading framework.

We'll explore how you can get up and running with Astro - transforming Umbraco Data into a suite of dynamic TypeScript components. We'll also discuss the various benefits and pitfalls including 'incremental builds', streamlining the publishing workflow, and cost-efficient hosting options.

Bake, Don't Fry: Astro & The Content Delivery API - Adam Prendergast

The Content Delivery API has revolutionised the possibilities for headless applications, including the creation of swift, scalable pre-rendered sites.

In this talk, Adam Prendergast will delve into the world of static site generation, with a focus on Astro as a leading framework. Learn how to transform Umbraco Data into a dynamic suite of TypeScript components using Astro, and discuss the benefits and pitfalls of 'incremental builds', streamlined publishing workflows, and cost-efficient hosting options.

This talk, which has been accepted for Codegarden, will leave you well-equipped to make informed decisions about integrating this innovative strategy into your projects.

Deep Dive into the Umbraco Headless Demo - Phil Whittaker

Join Phil Whittaker as he explores one of Umbraco's most significant releases in recent years - the Umbraco Headless demo. This session will cover how to get set up, explain how the Umbraco Content, Commerce, and Forms Delivery APIs work, and how CMS content is mapped into page content with NextJs.

Key concepts of Next.js and Vercel, including Server-Side Rendering (SSR), Static Site Generation (SSG), and Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR), will be introduced and their importance discussed. Lastly, we will explain how and why pages are efficiently updated when content is published in Umbraco.
